On the road to our 35th Anniversary... 2018

The South Shore Bluegrass Association was formed in 1983 by a group of local musicians who wished to promote bluegrass and old-time music throughout the South Shore region of Nova Scotia. There were 86 members at that first meeting, which was held at Italy Cross Fire Hall on November 20th, 1983. In 1989, the club was incorporated under the Societies Act and the word “music” was added to make the name “South Shore Bluegrass Music Association, which had grown to over 100 members. Festivals were held on private properties throughout Nova Scotia where fans camped and listened to our member musicians and invited guests. Money was raised and set aside for the day it would be possible to have our own park. We hold “Open Jams” on Friday evenings during the summer and have great support from the public as well as our members. Once monthly we hold a Variety Show, where the talents of our guests and member groups offer a wonderful evening of great entertainment. During the year, we proudly support organizations such as I.W.K. Health Centre, the Salvation Army and the Health Services Foundation of the South Shore. The current membership of the South Shore Bluegrass Music Association stands at 250+ and takes pride in maintaining and building on the foresight and achievements of the members since 1983.
