SSBMA 30th Anniversary

South Shore Bluegrass Music Association president Dianne Tipert was joined by the Municipality of Lunenburg's Mayor Don Downe to cut the cake celebrating the club's 30th anniversary.

On July 20, members and invited guests of the South Shore Bluegrass Music Association (SSBMA) gathered at the SSBMA Park in New Canada to celebrate 30 years of great music, great fellowship and great memories.

Morning, noon or night, music and laughter can be heard coming from all over the camping park or from around the fire pit. Many members also enjoy inside activities and fellowship.

Mayor Don Downe brought greetings from the municipality and spoke of his memories of the early days when the land lease was established.

A number of the original members were present for the celebration. Current members take pride in maintaining and building on what the founders began 30 years ago.

One of the members, Greg Nickerson, wrote a song for the occasion and delighted the audience as he performed it during the afternoon.

The purpose and objective of the club is to support and promote bluegrass, country and old-time country music. Once a month a variety show is held at the park at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday evenings. These shows as well as the acoustic jams held every Friday evening from 7 to 10 p.m. are open to the public. The hall is air-conditioned and wheelchair accessible.

The club has a website at http://www.southshorebluegrassmusic.com and a Facebook page at South Shore Bluegrass Music Association where you can get further information.
